Made on Our Land: Liniclate
Sunday 7 August, 2pm
Screen Machine, Car Park, Dark Island Hotel, Isle of Benbecula HS7 5P
Made on Our Land: Liniclate is a screening of rare films from the archives exploring the rural lives and landscapes of Scotland and Benbecula, followed by a panel discussion – or ‘blether’ – about the films being screened and the roots of our strong tradition of rural cinemagoing.
As well as national films including a post-war plea to dissuade Highlanders planning to emigrate to the city, the programme features a 1961 BBC documentary recording local community reactions to the then new Royal Artillery Guided Weapons Range as well as extracts from a holidaymaker’s extensive portrait of South Uist. Event duration: 90 mins approx.
