Bawleys, Barbels and Owlers – Life along the Kent coast
An exhibition exploring stories of the Kent coast at Kent History & Library Centre, James Whitman Way, Maidstone, ME14 1LQ

Enjoy a fascinating glimpse into Kent’s coastal history from oyster farming, sea-bathing, shipbuilding and smuggling. With archive film from Screen Archive South East including a visit to North Foreland Lighthouse in Broadstairs, Herne Bay pier ablaze in 1970, cockles & whelks and the Hoverlloyd in Ramsgate harbour, and the earliest publicity film of Margate from 1923.

Supported by a varied programme of talks and events featuring pirates, bronze age boats, naval defence, sea shanties and more.
